Shakespeare Fact file
Shakespeare was a very famous writer from the 16th century. He wrote famous plays like; Macbeth, Hamlet, and most famous of all Romeo and Juliet. He was born in Stratford upon Tyne which is a small town close to Birmingham. He married Anne Hathaway in 1582 at the age of 18, and continued to be married to her up until he died. His first play was said to be first performed in 1592 in London. In 1599 Shakespeare’s company members opened the new theatre called the Globe Theatre, where he performed the majority of his plays. By 1598 he became a selling point and appeared on title pages. After his success as a play writer, he continued to appear in his own plays and in others. After 1606-1607 he began to write fewer and fewer plays and after 1613 he didn’t write a single play. One of his final plays was Kings Men who he co-written with John Fletcher. On the 23rd April 1616 Shakespeare died and was buried in the chancel of the Holy Trinity Church on the 25th April. 500 years on Shakespeare`s plays are still being played all over the world and he remains one of the best writers to ever live.
